Piranha is basically a GUI interface to LVS (Linux Virtual Server) project. Refer to
www.linuxvirtualserver.org for details. Briefly, LVS allows you to setup front end
"Directors" which recieve requests like HTTP, which it then forwards back to a set of
HTTP
servers. You can have redundant director nodes for availablilty. Simpilarly you can
have
a large set of HTTP back end servers for both availablity and scalability.

There is currently a beta release new version of Piranha from Redhat. Through it you
configure the LVS, saying who the director nodes are, who the HTTP server nodes are as
well as configuration of the policies used to control how requests are load balanced
among
the set of real back end servers. If you look in the mail archives under the LVS site
referenced above you will find a pointer to get the pre-release beta of Piranha.

Also on the Redhat distribution you will find a set of instructions on using and
setting
up Piranha. Good luck with that. There are omissions of key pieces of information. I
have updated the instructions and sent it back to Redhat. If interested I could post a
reference to my more complete set of setup instructions.
