I would like to let everyone know the progress of the Linux Business Show.
And also ask for a show of hands of those who have either volunteered or
would like to assist us on the day before (April 28th,setting up) and the
day of the event (April 29th). The event is being held at the New Hampshire
Community Technical College at Pease International Tradeport, in Portsouth,
NH. It is free
First of all, the Committee led by Lori Hitchcock have done a fantastic job
so far. I saw a brief demo of the TuxBiz.com website they have developed
and the start of the ficticious Web based business they will be
demonstrating. You will be very impressed at the quality and
professionalism that they have accomplished.
We have 3 major presenters. They are Joshua Freeman, Linux evangilist for
Andover.net; our keynote speaker Michael Price, CIO of Burlington Coat
Factory; and Peter Rathbone, President of Virtual Airways.
Rick Petree has laid claim for us to all the rooms we need for this first
show. We have a large presentation room that will seat 75 and a smaller
presentation room that should seat 40. We have two vendor rooms that should
hold the 18 or so vendors that have tentatively signaled their
participation, and we have the computer lab where GNHLUG will demo our
ficticious own company TuxBiz.com. and how it runs with all Linux software.
I am working on the actual agenda now and it should be ready midweek to end
of week April 7th.
We are working on one of the sponsors having a semi-hosted party after the
event at Red Hook Brewery for some enjoyment afterwards. I will keep you
informed as to the progress there.
The advertising and press releases have started. We have covered most of
the major business periodicals in the state, as well as public radio in NH,
MA, and ME. We have covered the major newspapers once and will do a second
press release two weeks before with all the local papers notified as well.
We have again invited Channel 9 and will continue to invite other media
sources. E-Coast Technology Roundtable has mailed 600 postcards to their
business subscribers for us.
We have room for a few more vendors, so if any of you out there work for a
company that involves some form of Linux (software or hardware or service)
you think would like to display company literature or have a representative
be at the event please let me know.
If you can help out, let me know if it is for Fri, Sat, or both please.
Thanks
Jerry
