After a few responses, here and directly to me I did more poking around. I found that
the 3C905 from 3Com has three versions released,
the 3C905, 3C905B, & 3C905C. In any matter, the driver 3C59x can work on the older
cards. However 3Com's site states that this driver
may not work on the newer version, and just flat out suggests to use the 3C905 when
possible. After finding this I tried out the 59x driver
and it works for me.
Thanks to all that replied. I still find it odd that the 509 driver is no longer
listed, I think I recall seeing it as recent as Red Hat 6.0.
