There was an Article on http://www.sysopt.com last month about this as
well as Tom's Hardware Guide. If you look at the pictures of these cards
side by side you can't tell them apart from each other aside from the
label silk screened on the card. I would not hesitate performing this
hack on a machine at home. I would not use it in a production
environment at all. Heck, I would not use IDE where my job depended on
it. According to the review at Tom's it will do Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid
0,1. I could not verify this....the Promise web site was down. If I were
going to use IDE Raid I'd probably stick with the kernel software raid.
I trust an open source solution that has been pounded on, broken, then
fixed. as opposed to a closed source software/hardware solution, that
only has beta driver support.
