Thanks all,

I've received several replies for both KDE and GNOME (of course none of them
are the one that I know Derek and I played with 3 weeks ago, which neither of
us can remember right now :)

        kruiser:
                http://devel-home.kde.org/~kruiser (formerly KExplorer)

        LinNeighborhood:
                http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/

        gnomba
                http://gnomba.darkcorner.net/6.0/

the following search turned up lots of hits on freshmeat.net:
        http://freshmeat.net/search.php3?mode=appindex&query=SMB
browser&skip=60&link=http://freshmeat.net

Gnomba seems to work well for my purposes, other than the fact that it pops up
GMC to do the actual file browsing :)
