I'm no FAT expert, but you've just blown away the first 1.44 megabytes,
not bytes.  I think you're going to be well and truly screwed.  The boot
sector is the first 512 bytes on the disk IIRC, and you've gone WAY past
that.  It's possible you may be able to recover some (most) of your data,
but I'm fairly sure you've got some permanent data loss.  

Perhaps someone who IS a FAT expert can confirm or deny this...
