I know some HP folks, and they are supporting Linux.  For starters, they
paid the Puffin Group to port Linux to the PA-RISC architecture.  They
are also part of Trillium, porting Linux to the IA-64.  They also don't
say that the boxes support MPE (HP's equivilent to VMS), but I would bet
they do (the only difference in the big HP boxes between HP3000 MPE
systems and HP9000 HP/UX systems is the OS).  They're supporting Linux
more on the Intel side than the PA-RISC side, but still. . .
