Company Press Release

VA Linux Systems' SourceForge Introduces Open Source Developer Access
to Intel Itanium Processor Prototype Systems for IA-64 Linux

IA-64 Development Available on SourceForge, the World's Largest Open
Source Development Center

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 2000-- VA Linux Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq:LNUX - news), a recognized leader in Linux and Open
Source solutions for Internet infrastructure, today
announced that SourceForge(TM), the world's largest Open Source
development center, is now offering developers access to Intel
Itanium(TM) processor prototype systems.

Access to Itanium processor prototype servers via SourceForge
represents the first time that Intel has made these systems available
for developer access on such a broad scale. Open Source developers
will be eligible for access to Intel Itanium processor prototype
systems via the Web, subject to accepting terms and conditions put in
place by Intel and VA Linux. More information is available online at
http://sourceforge.net/compilefarm/.

``VA Linux Systems is the first to enable broad IA-64 Linux developer
access via SourceForge to Itanium processor prototype servers provided
by Intel,'' said Ron Curry, director of marketing at Intel's
IA-64 Processor Division. ``VA Linux System's SourceForge provides an
ideal forum for the Open Source community to access these systems and
advance Linux software development for IA-64
platforms.''

SourceForge currently supports over 29,000 registered users and hosts
over 4,500 Open Source projects, and continues to grow as a central
resource and repository for Open Source software. In March of
this year, SourceForge launched its CompileFarm -- a unique service
that gives Open Source developers an efficient way to build and test
applications on multiple versions of the Linux and BSD operating
systems over the Internet. The IA-64 prototype servers will be offered
under the umbrella of the SourceForge CompileFarm -- just one of the
many programming, project management and communication
tools available at no cost to Open Source developers on SourceForge.

``SourceForge offers members of the Linux community an unprecedented
chance to develop Open Source software for a pre-released processor
architecture,'' said John T. Hall, vice president, VA Linux
Systems. ``By working with Intel to give developers early access to
Itanium processor prototype systems, VA Linux, through SourceForge,
gives developers a head start in compiling, testing, and
optimizing their applications to run well on IA-64 Linux.''
