Hmm....I guess I should be more specific. I have a firewall that runs
with IPChains here in our office. If this server should go down I need
to have a backup server ready to go in place. For the interim I am going
to setup another identical system, and just copy the ruleset over to the
firewall periodically. In this case, I would shutdown and turn off the
non-functioning firewall, and turn on the backup firewall. This system
will work, but I am not keen on driving down to my office at 3 am on a
saturday night to swap out a down server. I would really like to have a
system where I have two firewalls, if where the primary crashes then the
secondary system will take over, and assume the ip's of the primary
firewall. Also when the primary firewall comes back up the secondary
firewall relinquishes control to the primary. This should accomplish my
goal of allowing me to get my beauty rest. Believe me I need it. Does
anyone have any knowledge of how this may be implemented in this way, or
know of any projects out there that already do this.
Thanks
Josh
