I had a very similar problem not long ago.  It was the RAM.

...and it was neigh on impossible to find info on this online.  I
eventually found a couple entries in a forum/bullitenboard that pointed
me in the right direction.

Try swapping the RAM and see if that fixes things.  My own machine died
randomly about once or twice a week when I had this problem, making it
almost impossible to fin any information in the logs...  It was
frustrating, as the machine woulf die and leave zero indication of why.
