thanks for all the tips -- i had done a reinstall late last nite where i had the 1.3G as a /home partition and i had left it unmounted and went some time without a kernel panic. As soon as i remounted that drive - kernel panic. So i'm not using that drive :) It was a HD manufacturer that i have never heard of anyway so i guess it's better to find out now that it was not a good drive or at least one that was not going to work with linux :). todd T.
