OK, I guess this is "partitioning redux"
Where do savvy system admins put the binaries for applications and how do people
find them. Is there a system wide notion of PATH that every user can use and
still have a local .cshrc (or what ever) ? I mean "/usr/local/bin" still seems
to me like part of the system; not where apps should live. What do the real
pros do ?

Standard is better than better. If your web page cares what browser I'm using
it's broken.
