Well, all I can say to those who missed last nights presentation by John
Terpstra, you missed the best speaker we have had in the two years I have
been associated with GNHLUG.
Here's Rick Petree's take on John "That was an OUTSTANDING meeting tonight.
The turnout was great and John was very personable and dynamic. There are
no doubts in my mind who we need to beg, borrow or steal for the 2001 LBS
keynote speaker!!!
I agree Rick. He is certainly on the list, and high up.
John gave a stirring argument to the need for commercialism to Linux, a
single set of binaries for a unified Linux(I have simplified this), and a
challenge to all LUGS to make money from Linux. He has the business
background to understand the dynamics of the present situation and the
possible outcome if we are all not willing to fight for what we believe. As
he says, "This is WAR".
Another position he takes is that we are fighting the Microsoft way, not
the way we should to get to the "SUITS". We need to change the battle to
take advantage of our "Home field" - Open Source, Service, Stable products.
I hope that those of us who walked out of the meeting last night can make a
difference not only in the GNHLUG, but outside each of our own small circle
of infuence.
Next meeting - Wed night, Firewalls Centralugs in Concord.
The third quarter GNHLUG is AUG 30th at Martha's Exchange in Nashua. the
presentation will be by VIrginia Caple of Applix on the latest APplixWare
Suite.
