That is correct and it's documented in the source... :) Try downloading
the latest kernel and poking through the Documentation directory... You
can also try searching the linux-kernel archives, but I suspect that will
be much less fruitful (unless you have a few days to kill).
Ted T'so is (supposedly) maintaining a status page, but I don't have the
URL and I don't know if it will give you what you're looking for.
The most recent Linux Journal had a decent article, but it wasn't all
inclusive.
