Hello to all GNHLUGGER's

Thank you for all the email on the topic of cancelled GNHLUG meetings. I
appreciate the kind words from you all and accept the critiques as to
possible actions to take for the future.

The responses brought to my attention that maybe you all would like to know
what has been happening to the organizational direction at the top. You
would have heard all this at the meeting that was cancelled, but since the
next meeting isn't until September 27th, I felt that now was the time to
let you know what is happening.

As Chairman, my goal is to lead us to a bigger, better, and Community
serving organization introducing Linux to targeted audiences through the
best speakers, newly organized New User nights, more installfests, the
Linux Business Show, and other venues as we deem worthy or necessary to
help us get the message out about Linux.

As of a couple of months ago, Jeff Smith accepted the position as Vice
Chairman of GNHLUG. He has more than fullfilled the expectations in a very
short time frame to assist in the growing needs of the organization. Of
course we are still working on duties and priorities. It has only been a
month and a half.

Jeff's major challenge at the moment is bringing up the new GNHLUG server
being hosted at Mission Critical Linux (many thanks to them for the offer
to assist).

Last month, Bayard Coolidge accepted the request that he take on the
responsibility of the Treasurer of GNHLUG. He did so with the understanding
that it would be a temporary position. (Honest, Bayard, we really are
looking for someone to take over). We have filed for the non-profit status
with the State of New Hampshire and will be granted the status soon. I have
to return a change of address form they sent me and then we will be legal.
They have already cashed the check.

Angie Morner is a new GNHLUG member who stepped forward upon my request
after finding out about her background to become my personal assistant. She
has been on the job less than two weeks and has already developed two
databases for us. One is for all Media sources in New Hampshire that will
be shared with all the Chapter Chairmen so that they will be able to do
their own press releases concerning meetings and any relevant news in a
more timely fashion. She has also started on the Vendor registration
database for the 2001 Linux business Show. Thirdly she has started on a
poll to be placed on the soon to be new and improved GNHLUG Web site to ask
you all about likes, dislikes of the changes to GNHLUG and the Chapters.
Stay tuned.

Of course we still have Maria, my right hand to rely on for her
organizational ability and expect more great things out of her for our
graphic and web needs. My wife Lynda will still be assisting us with many
administrative functions now that she is retired and healthy again, and
Kerry Lussier has also volunteered to assist when she can.

All of this will be on the new and improved GNHLUG Web site soon, so no
need to memorize.

For those of you who are new to the GNHLUG or to those who may have
forgotten the supporting cast of GNHLUGGER's, we have 5 Chapters around the
State.

They are Centralug (Concord/Laconia), SLUG (Portsmouth/Durham), Merrilug
(Nashua/Salem/MA), Monadlug (Peterborough/Keene), and lastly but not least,
the NNHLUG (Dartmouth/Lebanon).

We have a Steering Committee for GNHLUG made up of two or three members of
each Chapter. I won't mention them by name now as this information will
also be on the GNHLUG Web site. They are our lifeline, our rudder, our
anchor, and even the throttle when necessary.

We also have two people that deserve to be recognized. For the second year,
our Chairman of the Linux Business Show is Lori Hitchcock. If you want to
be involved with the Show, please contact her at:
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Mike Ledoux was and is the man that has organized our installfest programs.
He has also volunteered to Chair the New User Night Committee. If
interested, then please contact him at: mike ledoux <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Lastly, there would be no need for any administration if we didn't have you
the GNHLUG member. And to have a successful group, we need input as well as
output. We need your contribution of time and effort. We need attendance at
meetings. We need a continuing influx of new members. We need volunteers to
help us put on the events we all agree are worthwhile and important if we
are to gain the awareness for Linux that we all say we want. We need you to
support the companies that so freely give of their time and money to help
us by bringing us speakers for our meetings and money for our events.

So it isn't just us, the GNHLUG administration that stand to win or lose,
it is you the Lug member, whether a techie, a suit, a grizzled veteren, or
a newbie who professes to be a Linux evangelist, that has to make the
commitment with us which in turn will make us successful.
