I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Connect to the firewall". Are you
talking about a VPN connection or something? If it's a VPN connection
that you want, then FreeS/WAN is a great tool. However, it will require
a lot of work. You could also set up something like PopTop, which is a
pptp-based VPN server for Linux (http://poptop.lineo.com or
http://www.moretonbay.com/vpn) that uses 128-bit encryption, and has the
added benefit of allowing Windows clients to connect easily. FreeS/WAN
can do Windows clients, but it really isn't easy. But there is the
problem of having the username/password pair in a clear-text file.There
are several VPN systems for Linux, each one to address a specific need. 

If security is your goal, I would recommend  FreS/WAN, with minimum of
4096-bit keys, 15 minute keylife, and RSA authentication using the AH
protocol.
