Hello,
I am relatively new to Linux. I am running SuSE 7.0 Personal on a
dual-boot system (my other OS is Win98SE). I would like to depend on
Windows as little as possible.
One problem I am facing is playing MIDI files. First of all, I threw
out SuSE's Netscape and installed 4.75. I realize that may have messed
up some dependencies, but the problem goes beyond Netscape. First of
all, ump.so IS there but Netscape gives me an error message about a
missing plugin whenever I site includes a MIDI file. Second, I
downloaded a MIDI file from the internet and tried to play with kmid.
Kmid accepted it, it behaved as if it was processing the file (I could
even see keys struck on the keyboard icons), the time slider advanced,
but NO SOUND! (Sound is the most important thing when a MIDI file is
played.)
My sound card is an SB16 (it shows up as Vibra16). SuSE recognized
it and configured it. I am getting the system sounds and I can play
audio CDs with no problem (the latter is probably irrelevant since the
analog output of the CD drive --in my case a DVD ROM-- is dircectly
connected to the sound card). I can hear all the ICQ sounds under Linux
(I run kicq). My card also works fine under Windows, so the hardware
must be OK.
Can anybody offer any ideas? Below I have pasted the output of
lsmod and procinfo.
Gus
