  The real problem here is not the microphone, per se, but the fact that you
have both your record monitor and your pickup in open air.  This causes a
feedback loop (the microphone "hears" what the speakers are playing and sends
it back to the speakers again).

  Solution #1: Set the record monitor level to zero.  I think the aumix symbol
is "rec", but RTFM to be sure.  This will keep the microphone working but stop
playing it over the speakers.

  Solution #2: Use headphones to monitor recording.  Probably not what you
want to do on a laptop, but very useful, e.g., in a recording studio.
