I think it would be fairer to say that Linus' main complaint (as well as
that on large chunks of the kernel list, as well as the gcc team, as
summarized in the LWN of some two or three weeks ago) was with the release
of gcc 2.96, and not RH 7.x itself. I mean, he's the man who's been
using Linux since before there *were* distributions. <grin> And Lord
knows the ol' days of SLS weren't exactly heaven on Earth, but I rarely
(if, indeed, ever) have heard him weigh in on a distribution, itself.
Compilers, however, Linus has been known to have *strong* opinions about,
occasionally even labeling various releases as "compiler-non-grata."
