I haven't, but I did have similar problems with my AWE64 Gold card.

First, go into your /usr/src/linux source tree and carefully read
the Documentation. There are a number of related giblets that you
will need to update in order to properly compile and use a 2.4 kernel.
Among these are the module utilities, and I hasten to point out that
modutils was just bumped to 2.4.1 and is available at:

ftp://ftp.us.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/modutils/v2.4/

That will probably solve some of your problems with the sound stuff
as there was a lot of last-minute work in that arena. You may need
to add some 'insmod' statements to your start-up script(s) - I had
to add a few to /etc/rc.d/rc.local on my RH6.1 (Cartman) system to
insmod sound_core, sound, sb, uart401, awe_wave and maybe one other.
(I'm at work, so I can't look at my system at home...).

HTH,

Bayard
