I just installed the latest pre-release of Evolution on my laptop, and was playing around with it. If you don't know what Evolution is, it's the Ximian (formerly Helix Gnome) groupware package. It looks a bit too much like MS-Outlook for my taste, but if you're into that sort of thing it does seem to be relatively stable, and seems to provide most of the features you'd expect from such a tool, including e-mail that supports IMAP, POP, and local mail folders; contact management, much like what is available in Gnome Card; and calendaring (though it still doesn't seem to do shared calendars, something I think the Gnome folks have overlooked for too long). If you like graphical e-mail programs but don't want to use Netscape for whatever reason (like oh, say, because it crashes every 10 minutes if you open too many windows), or if you're looking for an outlook-alike to help convince your boss to run Linux on the desktop, you might want to have a look at this program. Unlike the earlier pre-releases I played with, it didn't crash on me at all while I was playing with it, which granted wasn't all *that* long, but was long enough to play with all the features a little bit. Some of the features and widgets are still a bit rough yet; but bear in mind this is still a pre-release. For example, while composing this message, I noticed that the edit menu had only one item in it which was blank and very small, and which did something wierd when I clicked on it. I sent this message from Evolution, so if it's all full of HTML crap, my appologies, but I don't think I have any of that stuff turned on (it will happily do it for you though, if that's the sort of thing you like to do). All in all, it looks to be a pretty good quality personal organization/communication tool. I'll still be sticking with mutt/pine though, since they're still a lot more flexible than Evolution or any of the similar tools for reading and sending e-mail, and the rest of the features just don't interest me enough to make them worth my while. -- We sometimes catch a window, a glimpse of what's beyond Was it just imagination stringing us along? --------------------------------------------------- Derek Martin | Unix/Linux geek [EMAIL PROTECTED] | GnuPG Key ID: 0x81CFE75D Retrieve my public key at http://pgp.mit.edu ********************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following text in the *body* (*not* the subject line) of the letter: unsubscribe gnhlug **********************************************************
