This looks odd, it usually should be something like /home/hillman/.Xauthority
(from your mail I assume you are just talking about X running on a local
machine, nothing with ssh)
Is the env. variable $XAUTHORITY set to that tmp file? Is there
a symlink from /home/hillman/.Xauthority to the tmp file?
If XAUTHORITY is set, restart X making sure to unset it first...
