A possibility for a business-model, perhaps. There was a small explosion
of companies in the early - mid 90s that were providing backup services for
companies because the companies were not taking the simple steps required to
back up their own data. So, you would load this service's software onto
your machine and they would backup your systems during off-peak hours (the
backup schedule was determined by the $ you paid...less for weekly, more for
nightly...full vs incremental...etc). Often business are more willing to
spend $ to outsource something rather than take the effort to do it
themselves for < $.
Maybe the same can be done for website monitoring. A business would
contract w/ you to monitor their website. You would have a copy of what it
should look like and if you detect changes you would alert them and/or
restore from your backed up copy (based on contract). Naturally, you would
need access to their web directories if they want you to do the restore
portion. Just an idea for any entrepreneurs in the audience.
