Nope, not Open Source. Debian non-free, at best (there's no
re-redistribution, and no license I found in the documentation that comes with
the package). You could argue that using the "patch file" part of dfsg, it
qualifies, but I doubt it. I also read his rant there about the "hypocrites"
who distributed Netscape Navigator. I didn't see anything hypocritical about
the NN situation. That was the license (just as djb's got his, or rather semi
has - he doesn't pass on the license). If he doesn't like Open Source, OK,
but I really hate people who call me a "hypocrite" for wanting Open Source.
BTW: Thanks for the link. I couldn't find it via the djbdns site at all.

Yep. Also check out the fsf (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html
andhttp://www.gnu.org/philosophy/philosophy.html ) and Open Source Initiative
(http://www.opensource.org/) on software licenses. What djb says is true,
but that still means that you can't distribute without a license, and the
GPL/BSD/etc explicitly granting of redistribution rights (including
modification rights) is necessary for Open Source.
I also checked out his statements at: http://cr.yp.to/compatibility.html.
Another interesting rant. Again, telling folks how they MUST set up their
system his way (OK, the distributors must, he admits you can do what you want
to his packages for your own personal use).
Not trying to start a flame war here. He has his opinion. I have mine. I'll
be checking out some of the other stuff out there (see:
http://lwn.net/2001/0208/ and http://lwn.net/2001/0222/letters.php3)
If you're happy with djbdns, go for it. He certainly is providing it.
