Hey there,

as I was upgrading debian, I ran into the following problem:

/var/lib/dpkg/info/dhcp.prerm: /etc/init.d/dhcp: No such file or directory
dpkg: warning - old pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/prerm: /etc/init.d/dhcp: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/dhcp_2.0pl4-2_i386.deb
(--unpack):
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/dhcp: file does not exist
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-common_3.3.6-11potato32_i386.deb
(--unpack): trying to overwrite `/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config', which is also
in package xbase-clients
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
  /var/cache/apt/archives/dhcp_2.0pl4-2_i386.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-common_3.3.6-11potato32_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I get this error, and can't quite decipher all of it, but I figured it had
to do with dhcp. I did install the dhcp tarball file and am assuming that
that is the reason that apt doesn't know about it and is getting
upset. Can anyone decipher this any better and tell me if either I am
completely wrong, or if I am right, how to fix this, because I get this
problem every time I try to get updates.

Thanks, I wish I was at the meeting now, but was in class
Derek
