Hi, Several people have asked if I could attend this meeting, and several others have looked for information about what to say and how to say it. So I am sending this out to the group as a "starter". No, I will not be going to the meeting, but I will be sending a letter to the committee. It will be fairly long. My letter will be describing (briefly) what Linux is and how I see it affecting the economy of New Hampshire. It will also state how I feel Linux can help reduce the costs of state government, perhaps citing some case studies I know. I encourage all of you to write, but keep in mind that this committee is focused on only one thing: saving the state government money while keeping its efficiency high. They are not evangelists, nor do they want to listen to them. Each letter should be individually thought out and worded. There is nothing worse than getting 250 letters, each of them saying "I feel....", but knowing that the letters were basically written off with a mimeograph machine (or fancy word processor). If you really care, take the time to write YOUR thoughts. Use a spell checker, and read the letter several times aloud, to make sure that your grammar is not too atrocious (I always do). Better yet, read it to your family. > Should some of us decide to attend these hearings, how should we > dress? etc. Conservatively. If you do not have a suit that fits (anymore), then a nice pair of slacks along with a dress shirt, tie and sweater will not look too bad. Lacking a tie, a turtleneck dickie under a sweater would also look good. > Sending me, Ben, and Kenny, for example, might not be in the best > interest of the community... If you go en masse, I suggest that you have at most one or two people speak, with the rest identified as members of the group. These people should be there to show support of the speaker, not cause a commotion. I have faith that any one from gnhlug would be able to be presented to this government body and make a good impression, given these few guidelines. md -- ============================================================================= Jon "maddog" Hall Executive Director Linux(R) International email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 80 Amherst St. Voice: +1.603.672.4557 Amherst, N.H. 03031-3032 U.S.A.
