Recently, there was a question here regarding Colo services. A few providers were mentioned both positivly and negatively. This is not intended to make negative comments about any provider of co-location services, but rather to defend HarvardNet, by one of its customers. AIRS has been colocating servers at the HNet, Charlestown facility for ~8 months, and we are mostly satisfied with the service there. I have visited the data center numberous times (usually at 2am) and I have recieved curteous, intelligent, and fast service. My questions have always been answered, and they always help with problem solving. I have great confidence in the technical ability of the staff and the security of their network and facility. I do not condone the dropping of the DSL customers in the quick way they did it, but for the colo customers the service is reliable. I hope I don't have to eat my own words later on. HNet has been acquired by Allegiance Telecom, and this will give HNet more capital to work with to provide us with continued good service. Allegiance will benefit from the acquisition, by establishing themselves in the data side of the communication business. It is mutually beneficial to HNet, Allegiance and their customer base. To my thinking, this is a win-win-win situation. The main drawback is the travel distance from Hanover, NH. It takes me 2.5 hrs to get to the facility, and I have had to learn how to administer my machiens long distance. Not the best situation, but it isn't as worrysome now as it was 8 months ago. The positives far outweigh the negatives, at least for me. Thanks for listening. -- Andrew G. Bacchi System Manager Hanover Capital Management (dba AIRS) 35 So.
