While the 3Com NICs in years past were the best on the market, in my recent 
experience, they are over priced and are not quite as good as other cards out 
there.  You can probably find 3C509 cards out there (10BT) real cheap, under 
$20.  If you want great quality at a cheap price, go for the NetGear, 100BT, 
for usually around $15 each.  You can usually find a starter pack that has 
either a 4 or 8 port hub and 2 NICs for under $75.

Ahm, what stories about NFS and Windows do want to hear?  Don't do it, or 
Caveat Emptor ;)  If you need to mix a Linux Server and a Windows client, 
use Samba rather NFS.  I know of no decent PC-based NFS client software out 
there.
