Tom,

I read the rest of the thread, and it seems to be be concentrated on the
Linksys cable/dsl router, but you stated that your only internet option
is dial-up. So, in an effort to answer your question, here goes:

You can pick up an 8-port 10/100 hub for about $50
(http://www.computers4sure.com/store/Linksys_hubs.asp) . As far as
network cards go, I have come to like Netgear cards. They are well
supported under both Linux (as a Tulip card) and Windows.

As for the internet gateway, read up on diald. You can set one system up
as the default route for the other, and when the client system wants
something on the `net, the gateway box will dial on demand. If you're
going to do this, I would also suggest reading up on firewalls, as well.
A popular misconception is that script-kiddies only go after always-on
connections. Truth be told, they like other peoples dial-up connections
just as well, since it makes them that much harder to trace.

Just my $0.000135,
Kenny
