I must say I'm quite disappointed. I also think you've arrived at
the wrong conclusion, especially since all the mail I've seen
regarding this meeting has been overwhelmingly positive.

I believe that there are plenty of people who are interested in
hearing about the pros/cons of qmail, as well as the rest of the MTAs
which were supposed to be presented.

People want to be shown the pros and cons of different products, and
want to be able to ask questions about them in order to decide which
is the right choice for them. They don't want to be lectured to
about what one person thinks is the best choice. That's the reason why we
attempted to establish this as a comparison of a variety of MTAs.

By choosing not to participate, you're preventing others from
learning from your experiences, and possibly depriving them that
opportunity to compare these different products.

Sure, any of us is capable of picking up the docs and figuring out
how to configure qmail, exim, etc. But we're not all going to be
experts on all MTAs and therefore will seldom get the chance to
objectively compare them side-by-side.

Part of being a member of a community is helping the rest of the
members of that community, and passing along your knowledge to others.
It is always your right and priviledge to not do either of those, but
keep that in mind the next time you need someone else's help. They
too, have that right to with-hold their experiences.

And please don't misconstrue this. I'm not saying that anyone here
is going to stop answering your questions just because you've chosen
not to participate. I'm saying that people should help one another,
and when someone doesn't help out their neighbor, it results in
exactly the type of everyone-out-for-themselves problem this society
already has way too much of.

So, I ask you to reconsider. Not because you feel that you have to,
or that you should, or even because I'm asking you to. But rather,
because you realize that you have knowledge that can be passed on.
Even if there's only 1 person there tomorrow night who cares
about qmail, that's one person who may well become un-stuck on a
problem they've been struggling with for a long time. And you'll
have helped that person. If only for that 1 reason, I think you
should attend.

But, if you don't want to, that's fine. I'm sure someone will be
willing to lift a pint or 2 for you anyway :)
