I think installfests are largely analogous to Trekie Conventions - a
great place to mingle with members of your own tribe.  I don't think
they necessarily hurt linux.  If you're not a member of the tribe and
you think you want Linux, call your favorite computer vendor and ask
for a computer with Linux pre-installed.

The again, when most of us are forced to reinstall Windows (again!)
we're usually doing it alone.

I personally think LUGs should move on.  Each LUG should be adopting a
major open-source application and should be having events to review
code and documentation and to test how well the application integrates
on a number of distros.
