Excellent idea! Several of us in the NH LUGs are getting together
to support/sponsor/build open source solutions for NH municipalities.
This would most likely be integrating, as opposed to creating individual
applications.
At a recent meeting of the NH LoGIN (Local Gov. Info. Network)
there were several NH LUG members. We believe that open source
can solve many problems for local government, not just cost.
Just the things we have mentioned so far, in very brief conversations:
(Some I have been talking to Milford officials about for years).
Municipal financial systems
mapping (GIS)
teaching in local schools
local welfare intake
local library access
and the usual server stuff
email servers
firewalls
file servers
backup
