No, it has an internal sound card with RJ-11 jacks, and a software driver
that pretends to be a modem. There are several names for these sound cards:

  - Controllerless modem
  - Software modem
  - Winmodem
  - HSP (Host Signal Processor) modem

I recommend you throw out the sound card and buy a modem. They cost less
than $50, and will work much better. This advice is platform neutral. Those
sound-pretending-to-be-a-modem cards *never* work well, regardless of OS.

If, however, you are determined to make use of it, your best bet is to check
out this website:

I also strongly recommend upgrading to kernel 2.2.19. There is at least one
nasty remote root exploit bug in 2.2.15 and prior, and a local root exploit
bug in 2.2.18 and prior. Red Hat has a 2.2.19 RPM on their update website.
