This was also the case with the SB32. Now that you have soundfonts
working you might want to check out smurf.sf.net, the open source
soundfont editor. There are a lot of soundfonts available out on the
web, especially Sequential Prophet 5 and Roland TR-808 kind of stuff.

Depends on what you like. While not a sequencer in the traditional
sense (?) of the word, RS101 from www.ultramaster.net can provide
hours of entertainment. It beats the pants off of ReBirth. SpiralLoops
is in the same vein.
For straight-up piano-roll/eventlist/notation sequencing I've played
around with Jazz and Rosegarden. Midimountain looks promising. MuSE
and agenda, the list goes on. I got wary of endlessly monkeying with
compiles and libraries and second guessing which tool was further
along or supported current ALSA baselines (ad nauseum).
My sequencer now looks like this:

It sits in a rig that looks like this:
memecycle.com/~ccb/studio.jpg (Look, Ma, no Computer!)
As a bonus it's a mondo pad controller and is a 4-part multi-timbral
sampler. It was either that or endless hours being a programmer and
not being a musician. The Yamaha RS7000 was a close runner-up but
nobody's actually *seen* one yet.
But I've again taken us OT. I'm happy to take replies off-list.
