I just got a Gateway Solo 3350 notebook with Windows ME on it.
Sometimes it seems to boot pretty quickly. However, it shows a
"returning to windows" message which makes me think it is not really
bootstrapping from nothing, but is instead saving some data structures
from the previous execution. Sort of partial hibernation, even though
I had selected "shutdown". Which may have something to do with the
frequent boot failures. (Which apparently leave the CPU running but
the fan off - it can get alarmingly hot. Power button doesn't help,
either. I've taken to finding the bent paper clip *before* trying to
boot Windows.)
Linux seems pretty reliable on it, though. Exactly one unexplained
crash so far.
