Okay, guys -- speaking as a long-term blood donor (I'm not quite at my
10-gallon pin), I certainly admire the sentiment involved, here. However,
it would appear that a) the Red Cross is currently busy as hell trying to
keep up with supply -- but not demand, and b) the demand, sadly, probably
will not be coming. However, giving blood is a *good* thing. So, if you
already give, please continue to do so. If you haven't before, please
consider starting to do so on a regular basis. It's a relatively painless
procedure (I find the prick on the fingertip to check for iron content
more annoying than the needle to draw the blood, itself), and takes about
the same amount of time as a long lunch. AND you get free cookies, and
sometimes pizza (always an inducement for Linux users ;-). Donations are
accepted no more frequently than every eight weeks (57 days, to be
precise, IIRC), and you should probably avoid donating within 36 hours of
any substantial physical work... but it's an easy way to do something good
for other people, both now in our nation's time of need, as well as in the
future.
