Karl's answer is fine, of course, but here is a tip:
If you have the SRPM (source RPM) for a Red Hat kernel, install that,
e.g.,
rpm --install kernel-2.2.19-6.2.7.src.rpm
and you will find the sources it was built from in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES.
One of the design goals of RPM was to keep a clear delineation between the
original, "pristine" sources, and whatever patches/modifications can be
done.
