  Ever taken a look at a GNU autoconf "configure" script?  There you have a
couple hundred kilobytes of if...then clauses.  At least you probably won't
need to generate and compile C code on the fly... <ironic grin>

  Actually, I would be surprised if someone else hasn't done this already.
Have you tried Google, Freshmeat, etc.?
