These events are usually things I respond to by saying, "Hey, neat,
maybe I'll remember to get up for this." I then usually proceed to
completely forget about said event until I read about it on /., or
hear someone else mention it. At which point I get all bummed out
that I missed yet another neat astronomical event which won't show up
for another 300 years or so. But not this time :) For some reason I
actually found myself awake at 4:30 !

Don't know if anyone was lucky enough to see this. My wife and I woke
up at about 04:30, dressed in warm sweats, made hot chocolate and went
outside for an hour or so to watch. It was simply amazing! Additionally,
we dug out the telescope and got a *really* good look at Jupiter which
is also at it's brightest this month.

I'd say we were seeing meteors flying by at about 1 or 2 per minute,
sometimes even more frequent than that!
