Yes, I ran into that same problem.  gphoto 0.4.3 works great with my
camera: I was somewhat surprised gphoto 2.0 didn't have a gui front end
similar to the first one as an example application usage of the
library...

There seems to be rpm binaries for 0.4.3 at:

        http://www.gphoto.org/download.html

BTW, does gimp support gphoto2 as a plugin somehow?  That might have to
be one's gui.  This wouldn't be too bad, I usually have to touch up the
image a bit, and gimp is nice at that.
