Can somebody point me at a summary or survey of currently available storage/backup technologies? I just checked http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] and didn't find too much. I'm looking to upgrade my archival storage gear but to give you an idea of how out of date I am I'll mention that my current archival medium is 1/4" streaming cartridge tape at ~150Mb per cartridge...
One option that I find attractive (primarily because of the possibility of random-access) is DVD-RAM at ~5Gb per disc (or ~9Gb double-sided) though I see on pricewatch.com that some of the tape technologies seem capable of holding ~200Gb per tape. Comments? Is Linux particularly well- (or poorly-) suited for one or another of these technologies? ********************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following text in the *body* (*not* the subject line) of the letter: unsubscribe gnhlug **********************************************************
