You've got 2? Can I borrow one, I lost mine!

Yeah, look at MS, installbase and marketshare have been major thorns
in their side for a long time. It's no wonder the Win9x series has
had so many problems for so long. If the entire world had been
willing to chuck their current list of sw from the 3.1 days I suspect
things might be a lot better with Windows, though, maybe not :)

Personally, I think you should be willing to make a major adjustment
every few years. Get rid of all that crap you don't really need
anymore and move into something new.

That being said, I've been using fvwm for I don't know how long :)

Though for the most part, fvwm and Xemacs are about the only 2 pieces
of sw I use daily that I haven't left behind in the 12 or so years
I've been using Unix. Almost everything, from my calendar manager to
my mail clients have changed at least twice, if not more. And I
continue to eval new stuff to see if it's worth switching to.

The only good answer is:

If you don't like, do something about it yourself.

You do have that choice under OSS, and no one out there is
necessarilly looking out for anyone elses interests but their own.
