I have one of the 3com AirConnect base stations at home (this is not one
of the ones that handles routing as well, it's just a base station, and
there's much cheaper ones out there) and have never had an issue with the
laptop disconnecting from it. Quite often I use it to tunnel into work or
just surf the web.

I use the same setup at work and quite often roam around the building w/o
trouble.

I would say that unless your coworker takes her laptop on jogs around the
neighberhood she won't have any trouble. Though do keep in mind that the
further you get away from these stations the slower the speed is. I know
my 3com will start at 11Mbps, but drops to 5 and then 1 as the distance
grows, but then again unless you're living in a massive house that
shouldn't be an issue.

I think the cable internet access is going to be the week point not the
wireless.
