Ok, so another question: Anyone ever use NASM? Is there a DOS version as well as a Linux one? Anyone know if there is a free assembler that has both? I might also mention here that I'm NOT a complete newbie to assembly. I've written some 6502 machine language BY HAND (i.e. poking the opcodes into memory and calling them), and I've done a little bit of MIPS assembly using SPIM in an architecture class I took not too long ago, as well as written some fairly trivial 16-bit assembly programs with MASM a few years back. None of this was terribly substantial. I'm looking to get a somewhat more in-depth understanding, but not necessarily an expertise, in x86 assembly. I will say that one of my most rewarding feelings came from writing a (roughly) 75-line MIPS assembly program and having it work the first time. Though some will think me masochistic, I actually kinda like assembly. Though I doubt I'd ever use it for any serious work! ;-) > [2] I was young and stupid.[3] > [3] No guarantees either condition has terminated.
