Jumper to an unused ID. Your boot drive should really be 0. Boot with the drive installed. The BIOS should see it. You should see it during the driver init as the kernel boots. Use fdisk to carve up the disk. Use mke2fs (or whattever) to put filesystems on your new partitions.
