Thanks for the lead Alex!  What started this is the fact that my
sound card doen't work.  Not that this is a bad thing, but I
finally decided to do something about it.  When I tried to load
the sb.o.gz using insmod I got unresolved symbol errors.  I knew
there were some issues that I had seen discussed on the list
related to building/rebuilding the kernel, but I couldn't
remember the thread.  I'm glad I asked first, becuase I was going
to rebuild the kernel on my laptop first.  I assume that I have
to rebuild the module to fix the unresolved symbols error.  Which
is what prompted my original question.
