Let me start off by apologizing for the use of bandwidth, if the following message is inappropriate use of the list please let me know offline and I will make it a point to avoid this kind of post in the future.
I know that a lot of the list members participate in the distributed.net project, donating idle cpu time for key testing purposes. I'd like to mention a similar project that I just came across, dedicated to simulating a process known as "protein folding". The project is run by a nonprofit group that is part of Stanford University. Following publication, the results will be made available to everyone via the web site. This research is being applied to the understanding of diseases such as Mad Cow, Cystic Fibrosis and Alzheimer's. Having recently lost a loved one who suffered from Alzheimer's disease I can attest to the devestating effects of it on both the afflicted and their families. To help with this effort I've created a team and taken the liberty of naming it GNHLUG. If anyone is interested in contributing the web address is http://folding.stanford.edu and the GNHLUG team # is 1663. There are currently clients for Windows9x/ME/NT/2000/XP and Linux, and they're working on versions for other OSs. In addition to needing help on the client end they could use some programming help on the ports. This was meant purely as an informational post, again, if this message is inappropriate in any way please let me know.
