I have no experience with XINE, so I can't answer your question. But I may be able to provide you with alternatives. If you're trying to play MPEG movies, I've found that MpegTV is about the best MPEG player I've come across. You can get it for free at http://www.mpegtv.com/ if you can live with the free version, and the full version comes as a crippleware trial (limited to 30 sec. of play). If you're trying to play DVDs, you should check out VLC here: http://www.videolan.org/ It does also play MPEG videos.
