I'm not trying to compare Perl to PHP here, just point out that tools that allow you to do stupid things are not limited to PHP. Additionally, characterizing the depreciation of that feature as a sweeping condemnation of PHP by its own developers is hardly fair. Again, it is not the language or platform, but how it is used.
