While I don't have definitive answers (though I seem to recall a bias toward ncurses), I definitely recommend the O'Reilly "Pig Book:" _Programming With Curses_. (Okay, okay, I guess he's a boar; always thought of him as a pig, though...) Anyway, for a whopping 76 pages, and a mere 16 years old, it's just insanely helpful when doing curses stuff. Get it if you can find it...
